Firepond, an intelligent guided selling and online customer assistance solutions provider, announced the appointment of former IBM Corp. vice president John Cachianes to its board of directors on December 21. Cachianes recently retired and has been working as an independent consultant. At IBM, Cachianes served as general manager of the company's Distribution Industry Solutions Business Unit. On December 20 streaming and system solutions provider Ciprico Inc. announced the appointment of Thomas G. Hudson to its board of directors. Hudson was most recently president, CEO, and chairman of the board of Minneapolis-based Computer Network Technology Corp. EMC Corp. announced the election of Windle B. Priem to its board of directors on December 18. Priem has spent the past 25 years at Korn/Ferry International as the executive recruiting company's president and CEO. Priem fills the vacancy created when EMC founder Richard J. On December 17 eBay Inc. announced that Brian Swette will step down as COO of the company effective January 1, 2002. Swette's day-to-day responsibilities in marketing, category management, and business development will be integrated into the departments of other executives, including: Maynard Webb, president of eBay Technologies; Rajiv Dutta, CFO; and, Bill Cobb, senior vice president of global marketing. Swette is yielding his COO duties in order to spend more time with his children who live in Florida, company representatives say. He will continue at eBay as head of corporate development, managing all of eBay's major marketing and sponsorship relationships, and also will serve as a senior advisor to Whitman on strategic business issues. On December 13 Attenza, a provider of Internet-based self-service solutions, announced the appointment of Charla Michalojko as vice president of business development. The 20-year industry veteran has held previous positions at BMC Software Inc. and IBM Corp. Consultancy Integrated Information Systems Inc. (IIS) on December 13 named Mark Rogers as vice president and general counsel. On December 12 i3 Mobile Inc. , a provider of wireless media content and services, announced Sharon Podwol as vice president of interactive marketing. Podwol will oversee the Web strategy and interactive marketing of Pronto, the company's new subscription service for mobile phones. Prior to i3, she served at eView Technologies, Interaxx Television Network, and Ogilvy and Mather Advertising. Also, the company announced on December 11 that Edward Fletcher, i3's vice president of finance, will assume the position of senior vice president of finance with responsibility for the company's day-to-day financial affairs. Enterprise software company Chordiant Software Inc. added two new positions to its management team on December 12. Jeremy Coote, formerly general manager of Siebel North America, joined as president of Chordiant's Americas operations; and Paul Burrin, formerly senior vice president of corporate marketing at Oracle Corp. joined as the senior vice president for worldwide marketing. Coote will be responsible for all of Chordiant's Americas operations including the field, and customer servicing and selling functions. Burrin will lead Chordiant's go-to-market strategy and will direct worldwide field marketing, corporate communications, branding, and industry analyst and media relations. Vicinity Corp. , a leading provider of Web, wireless and speech-based enterprise location services solutions, named Charles W. Berger president and CEO on December 10. Most recently, Berger was chairman and CEO of Adforce, Inc., a provider of online ad management and delivery services.
