MicroStrategy Rolls Out MicroStrategy Cloud Express
SaaS product features DIY business analytics and the ability to deploy mobile apps within a week.

Business intelligence software provider MicroStrategy Wednesday released MicroStrategy Cloud Express, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution designed for "do-it-yourself" business analytics, mobile intelligence, and data publishing. According to the company, Cloud Express enables any user, regardless of technical skill, to access and analyze data on his or her own, and deploy data-driven mobile apps to end users without having to do any coding.

With Cloud Express, executives can access on-premise and cloud-based data and explore it using data visualizations. Users can explore their data through drag-and-drop controls while creating new metrics, using advanced and predictive analytics, and filtering and drilling through data.

The Express Delivery functionality also lets subscribers build documents and reports and segment its distribution based on the recipients' organizational role, geographic location, or other criteria. In addition, the Express distributions can be set up to occur on a scheduled basis.

"MicroStrategy Cloud Express is unlike any product we've introduced before," claims Sanju Bansal, MicroStrategy executive vice president, in a statement. "MicroStrategy Cloud Express will empower business executives and unburden IT departments, allowing companies to deliver value to their customers faster and more cost effectively."

The release of Cloud Express adds a new service level to the MicroStrategy Cloud, which originally became available last year with personal and platform service options. The Cloud Express is available as a subscription-based service.

Gartner predicts the worldwide cloud services market will surpass $109 billion by the end of this year, up from $91.4 billion in 2011. As more companies invest in SaaS products, established software companies like the 23-year-old MicroStrategy are trying to keep up with the times by offering user-friendly cloud solutions.

As the company's third quarter results show, offering SaaS products has become a necessity. MicroStrategy reported $31.7 million in product licenses revenues for Q3 of this year—a 19 percent decrease from last year's third quarter. Its total third quarter revenues for this year were $143.2 million, a 1 percent increase from the same quarter in 2011.
