Birst Applies Analytics to NetSuite ERP, Cloud Commerce

Enterprise cloud business intelligence company Birst has launched a solution accelerator designed to drive deeper insight on transactions occurring in the NetSuite enterprise resource planning platform (ERP) and host of SuiteCommerce applications.

An analytical application prebuilt for NetSuite, the solution allows users to "pull all of their financial metrics out to be able to gain deep visibility across all of NetSuite," says Birst cofounder and CEO Brad Peters. By building a full analytical data model around an existing NetSuite instance, Birst enables multidimensional analysis of that data by "slicing and dicing a lot of different attributes simultaneously," he adds.

Because the system integrates with other third-party platforms, NetSuite users can access their data for a multitude of instances, such as marketing, quote-to-cash, or sales-related transactions. Jive Software, for instance, started using Birst for sales analytics and eventually applied the solution to financial reporting with plans to run analysis on various other business processes.

Birst Solution Accelerator for NetSuite includes the following features:

  • prebuilt reports, with more than 20 off-the-shelf reports available for immediate access to common business process outcomes;
  • Single sign-on, which allows users to embed advanced analytics within the NetSuite application; and
  • prebuilt meta-data, which cuts down on manual defining and measuring around business processes with a data model designed for NetSuite use cases.

Birst, which has a similar prebuilt analytical connector to the cloud CRM system Salesforce.com, has seen increased interest from CRM and ERP customers who need more than a single-object reporting capability built into systems. Once customers implement an ERP system successfully, Peters says questions such as "Where are we succeeding or failing, and which customers are churning?" typically follow.
