AppGlu Releases Mobile Enterprise App Platform

AppGlu, a mobile enterprise application platform geared toward businesses that need access and control over the mobile apps they deploy, launched Monday.

With Gartner predicting that 25 percent of enterprises will have an app store by 2017, it's incumbent upon businesses to evaluate how apps are used, what updates are required to keep them functioning smoothly, and what level of personalization is required to keep users engaged with the app.

AppGlu's core features include:

  • mobile-optimized content management, which offers the ability to synchronize offline data and customize data according to user preference and behavior;
  • user engagement capabilities, allowing businesses to send custom targeted push notifications to users based on behavior and preferences; and
  • reporting, to provide management insights and graphical displays depicting how users interact with content.

One early adopter and customer company, Honeywell, uses AppGlu to manage a series of enterprise iPad applications for its field sales force. According to Eric Shapiro, founder and chief technology officer for AppGlu, Honeywell has a seamless way to push new product information to the apps and to determine which products are most popular with customers—or subsequently, which features in the app salespeople are finding most useful.

What makes corporate-sanctioned apps preferable to an enterprise is the security and governance they afford the company and its employees, partners, or customers. According to Gartner, enterprises will continue to formalize standard support for smartphones and tablets used by employees, and make provisions for mobile application management.
