This piece was written to accompany the News story, "Certifying KM Professionals," in the August 2001 issue of Knowledge Management magazine.

The Knowledge Management Consortium International (KMCI) offers two certification programs.

The Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM) Program

For: Government organizations and consultants
Focus: Producing competencies to plan, initiate and design solutions for government and to implement that solution.
structure: Graduates are called Level I, II or III Certified Knowledge Managers (CKM) depending on whether 1, 2 or 3 weeks of workshops are completed. Level III concentrates on a specialized role within a KM Project.
Cost: About $4,000/week. Certain discounts may apply.
Where & When: Classes are scheduled approximately once a month in different U.S. cities.

Certified Knowledge and Innovation Management (CKIM) Program

For: Fortune 1000/global 2000 enterprises, consultants, and start-ups.
Focus: Producing competencies to plan, initiate and design solutions for government and to implement that solution.
structure: Graduates are called Level I, II or III Certified Knowledge Managers (CKM) depending on whether 1, 2 or 3 weeks of workshops are completed. Level III concentrates on a specialized role within a KM Project.
Cost: About $4,000/week. Certain discounts may apply.
Where & When: Classes are scheduled approximately once a month in different global locations including the U.S., Mexico, Netherlands, Hong Kong and Singapore. Future locations are being planned in Europe and Canada.
