Xerox Releases Cloud-Based MDM Solution
Xerox has introduced a mobile device management service to its suite of cloud business offerings to help organizations perform a variety of mobile functions including remote formatting and device tracking.
According to Ken Stephens, senior vice president of cloud services for Xerox, the service is geared toward both the enterprise and SMB, which dually "struggle with how to identify, secure, and track a host of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops" on an organizational scale.
By 2016, smartphone and tablet ownership is expected to reach the one billion mark, according to Forrester Research. To account for this shift in connection and engagement, Forrester outlined how IT infrastructure and operations professionals must incorporate corporate-liable and employee-owned devices into their enterprise mobile strategy.
One of the challenges is providing seamless management of and implementing security measures for a range of mobile devices and form factors.
"The Xerox business cloud includes a mobile management approach that delivers the critical components for device management: security, ease of use, and administration," said Alan Snyder, chief executive officer of BoxTone, Xerox partner, in a statement. BoxTone's enterprise mobility management platform is included in the Xerox cloud service and automates device controls for iPad, iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry
Xerox recently expanded its cloud service solutions to SMBs, introducing Business Cloud infrastructure used by corporate enterprises to smaller operations.
