CRM Market Heats Up

Revenues for many CRM vendors soared in 1999 in what analysts are calling a "booming" market. There were some high-profile mergers: Clarify merged with Nortel Networks, PeopleSoft acquired Vantive, SalesLogix bought back ACT! from Symantec, and Siebel acquired training and professional services company OnTarget, while spinning off Sales.com. And there were a few IPOs: Pivotal went public in August 1999 and FirePond in February 2000. Some of the CRM vendors we follow have remained private, however, so their results could not be included here. Not everyone had a great year, though. Baan lost its CEO, Mary Coleman, and revenues dropped amid reorganization.
