Avaya Launches IP Office 7.0

NEW YORK (Think Big Analyst Event) — Avaya unveiled IP Office 7.0, an integrated solution of recently acquired Nortel Enterprise Solutions IP and digital phones, during Avaya’s Think Big press analyst and partner event in New York on Tuesday. The telecommunications company hopes that the product will improve user experiences and encourage collaboration for early-stage and midsize companies.

“We are now delivering all of the same high-end capabilities into the small and medium-enterprise market that we could deliver in the larger market, and we are doing it on a single platform that is purposefully built for the small, medium enterprise environment,” said Alan Baratz, senior vice president and president of Avaya Global Communications Solutions.

IP Office 7.0 will give about 14 million Nortel users access to Avaya IP Office’s collaboration capabilities and will deliver an expanded portfolio of devices for multimedia innovation. Upgrading to IP Office can be “accelerated and simplified” using the Data Migration Tool, which enables businesses to transfer existing data, such as voicemails and phone extensions, to the new system. “It is a platform that is easy to order, easy to configure, easy to install, easy to manage, and easy to use,” Baratz said.

Similar to other solutions on the market, Avaya said it has taken a “hybrid cloud approach” to IP Office 7.0, placing it on premises and enabling select applications to be hosted in the cloud on a partner network.

IP Office was first sold in 2002, and Avaya currently has more than 30 million customers using its small and medium enterprise communication and collaboration products. “When we acquired Nortel a little over a year ago, we were very clear about the fact that IP Office was our strategic platform for the small and medium enterprise market and that we were going to be investing heavily in allowing IP Office to drive convergence in this market,” Baratz explains.

In addition, Avaya wanted to create a “very smooth transition pattern” for customers on one of its legacy products to the new IP Office product, Baratz said. “Avaya has done a great job of bringing the features of our existing Nortel phones to the Avaya IP Office platform, which makes the transition easier,” said Howie Gold, director of IP at the Agency Group.
