SAP Expands Its Analytics Capabilities

But it goes far beyond analytics. "We see tremendous opportunities across the entire applications portfolio that we have," Leukert added. "We see the future in cognitive technologies."

Rob Enslin, president of global customer operations at SAP, agreed, saying that the company expects to see tremendous growth in the sale of applications that incorporate not only cognitive learning but also predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, and open application programming interfaces (APIs).

These are all areas where SAP is providing "a lot of innovation," he added.

SAP also used the conference to introduce the spring 2016 version of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, which offers a range of new capabilities and features to help organizations accelerate their digital transformations and better integrate and extend their SAP software.

Innovations in the spring edition of SAP HANA include an API Hub, prebuilt extensions for applications based on SAP S/4HANA, enhancements to the extension package for SAP SuccessFactors solutions in the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, new lines of business and mobile apps from partners, and added services for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. Updates to the SAP HANA App Center include improved navigation and sorting capabilities and self-publishing for partners.

Extensions to the SAP HANA Cloud Platform enable customers to add functionality to cloud solutions from SAP and integrate them with SAP on-premises solutions. Included in the extensions are single sign-on and access governance capabilities, a common user experience, and automatic provisioning of services for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform into cloud solutions from SAP.

The new beta version of SAP API Business Hub will provide access to SAP HANA Cloud Platform APIs and those for other business applications from SAP. Customers, partners, and developers will be able to search the hub for available business services, publish new business services to the hub, and collaborate with others to develop and exchange business services.

Other new developments include the following:

  • SAP is releasing the beta version of SAP HANA Cloud Platform, starter edition for Cloud Foundry services. This beta edition supports Java, Node.js, HTML5, MongoDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, and RabbitMQ.
  • SAP has expanded its cloud-based user experience services with SAP Fiori, cloud edition, including the SAP Fiori mobile service and third-party integrations to help simplify, streamline, and mobilize the user experience of SAP Business Suite applications.
  • SAP also recently partnered with Apple to deliver a new SAP HANA Cloud Platform exclusively for Apple's iOS mobile platform, enabling users to build their own iOS apps for iPhone and iPad.

The SAP HANA Cloud Platform already boasts more than 400 partners and features close to 1,000 apps available on the SAP HANA App Center.
