The Newest Method of BPM

WebMethods on Wednesday introduced version 7 of webMethods Fabric, the BPM vendor's flagship product suite. Highlighting the newest version is webMethods BPMS, a newly available full feature business process management suite that includes an Eclipse-based process modeling environment for codeless development, extensive support for system-to-system task flow, business rule management, and a new metadata library. Also new to Fabric 7.0 is the inclusion of webMethods Infravio X-Registry and webMethods Infravio X-Broker for SOA governance. Customers will be able to take advantage of this pre-built integration to include existing services in their process models for implementation. Eclipse-based process modeling allows for the development of composite applications, customized business processes, and user dashboards from reusable components, SOA's biggest advantages. "Industry leaders recognize that process mastery is a competitive weapon," says David Mitchell, president and CEO of webMethods. "The idea is that with more efficient and adaptive business processes, they can improve competitive differentiation and better serve customers." WebMethods operates in what Forrester Research deems the BPMS market, competing against stalwarts such as Oracle, IBM, BEA Systems, and other back-office application providers. While this market was traditionally focused on proprietary, closed-framework solutions, it is now based almost exclusively on SOA and providing standards-based integration technology. These vendors have also begun embedding enterprise service bus (ESB) and BPM capabilities to extend their functionality even further, says Ken Vollmer, a principal analyst with Forrester Research and coauthor of the report, "The Forrester Wave: Integration-Centric Business Process Management Suites, Q4 2006." The end result is that organizations can obtain comprehensive integration products in pre-integrated suites that can enhance organizational agility while reducing implementation headaches. Vollmer says webMethods is a clearly defined leader in this space. The announcement is also representative of webMethods' focus on incorporating BPM as part of its integration suite. "webMethods has augmented its traditional integration capability with extensive BPM capabilities," Vollmer says in the report. "They have the most comprehensive BPMS suite in the market.
