Unisys Releases New ClearPath Forward ePortal

Global information technology company Unisys today announced the release of ClearPath Forward ePortal 7.0, the new edition of its application development and modernization solution, designed to bolster companies' IT structure.

ePortal 7.0 is available for both the ClearPath MCP and OS 2200 operating environments, both of which are point-and-click, service-oriented architecture enablers designed to extend the functionality of ClearPath Forward applications to engage new partners, channels, and markets.

The latest version of ePortal delivers a range of improvements. A secondary manager partition can now be put in place to take over operations if the primary partition fails, and fully redundant network paths are now supported for manager partitions. These new capabilities aim to eliminate single points of failure for management operations.

Another new tool relies on Unisys Multi-Device Mobile App development to assist developers in building hybrid mobile applications. The tool supports development frameworks from Apple, Android, and Microsoft and helps developers easily build mobile apps equipped with the latest technologies.

Furthermore, the new edition provides specific support for Windows 10 apps, providing developers with templates to create apps for the complete range of Windows 10 desktops, tablets, and smartphones using a single code base. The update also features integration with Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 and the latest Microsoft .NET frameworks.

ePortal 7.0 also features a number of consultancy services designed to complement these software enhancements. A PoC service aims to help clients extend ClearPath applications to mobile, Web, or Web-services environments by building a proof of concept that establishes specific user-interface screens or user transactions. An implementation service assists in installing and configuring ePortal Enterprise Edition for larger clients, and an application development service helps with Web and mobile enablement of existing applications, and with developing new applications for multiple platforms.

Users also have access to the Cloud Build and Publish service for developing and deploying hybrid applications to cloud-based app stores; the User Authentication and Experience Design service for constructing user authentication and modern mobile interfaces; and the Customer Training service for on-site ePortal education.

In a statement, Brian Herkalo, director of ClearPath Forward Solutions at Unisys, said a goal of the release was facilitating an "always-on IT infrastructure":

"The ePortal 7.0 solution enables clients to build a software-defined, 'always on' IT infrastructure that helps their organizations achieve the sustained performance they need in their transaction-intensive business and become more agile in capitalizing on emerging business opportunities. We are committed to continually enhancing the strategic solutions and services our clients need to maintain and build on the competitive advantage that ClearPath Forward gives them."
