Trillium Software and Teradata Join Forces

With a reselling alliance announced today, Teradata and Trillium Software, a Harte-Hanks data quality (DQ) business, move closer to becoming a one-stop-shop for enterprise DQ solutions. The partnership means that Teradata, an enterprise data warehousing and analytics provider, will now sell Trillium's DQ offering to provide an integrated and more complete master data management (MDM) solution. The organizations aim to provide enterprises with the flexibility to access existing DQ tools to provide scalable data analysis and management.

"We have seen [an] increase in the number of existing customers and prospects that are looking to combine technology in order to move and process large volumes of data and have the highest quality [data] available to organizations," says Len DuBois, vice president of marketing at Harte-Hanks' Trillium Software, about the motives for the alliance. He goes on to note that not only will customers of the organizations receive seamlessly integrated best-of-breed solutions, but they'll also experience a lower overall cost of ownership.

According to Ray Wang, principal analyst at Forrester Research, Trillium Software is one of the best DQ solutions in terms of data cleansing, de-duping, and matching. He adds that Teradata's product line has had a gap in the area of data cleansing and governance. The partnership with Trillium will aid in rounding out Teradata’s solutions. "Teradata is often used from a customer perspective and for other MDM elements, but it hasn’t been seen as an MDM solution from an analyst perspective because it didn’t do a lot from data-cleansing and data-governance aspects," Wang says. He points out that this "strong" partnership will bring Teradata, which is also used frequently with product management, into a more customer-specific hub.

Teradata partnered with supply-chain provider i2 Technologies in 2005 to provide a more complete enterprise data platform. With the partnership, Teradata became oriented in product-specific tools. The Trillium alliance will allow Teradata to explore a new domain—that of customer data management.

"While many organizations believe that it’s important to have high-quality data within CRM and ERP, what mature companies are beginning to realize is that it takes a consistent view of customers across an enterprise [to] provide you with enterprisewide data quality," DuBois says. He adds that telecommunications and retail are specific verticals that will benefit from the seamless integration of Teradata and Trillium offerings.

The Trillium Software System will be sold in conjunction with the Teradata Warehouse, as well as with Teradata Relationship Manager and Teradata MDM solutions.
