Sparqlight Ramps Up Enterprise Social Workflow Capabilities

Social workflow application Sparqlight, which launched its enterprise edition this May following "an extensive private beta" period, today introduced a set of enhanced rules and automation features and social workflow templates to the platform.

The templates let users tailor their workflows around specific departmental job roles, such as sales, marketing, HR, product management, or IT, in order to automate, assign, and prioritize common business tasks for a more collaborative work effort. Managers or team leaders can assign goals or tasks to individuals or groups, and subsequently, individuals can "claim" a task.

"The cool part about templating is that I can see how I'm personally doing," says Sparqlight's chief marketing officer Michael Weir of tracking key performance indicators. "Workflow analytics are built in, and it becomes a good tool to see what things I have [left] to complete."

Through an enhanced set of rules and automation, users can now trigger a workflow to work in conjunction with a template. If, for instance, a particular use case happens to be "onboarding a new customer," Weir says, the system enables enterprise users to ask finance to create a new invoice or to assign a success manager to the new client in a "completely user-defined" manner.

In addition, within the Sparqlight application, you can add a Google Doc, assign a task to another user, set a due date, set public or private controls, and tag a post for search and follow-up in the activities stream. Sparqlight also features geotagging capabilities to siphon out a task or action based on location. A "Passports" feature lets a Sparqlight user invite an external user into the domain, with limitations based on what records they'll be able to see and what they'll be able to interact with.

Though Sparqlight is certainly not the only player in the busy social enterprise space, Weir says he expects Microsoft's announced $1.2 billion cash purchase of Yammer to "lend huge visibility" to the sector. "It's awesome for us," he says of Sparqlight's position in the partner community. "We get a lot of registrations that come from Yammer." Existing Yammer users, he explains, can automatically be set up with a Sparqlight account, which takes out the activation step…. Microsoft's a real powerful entrant into the market. It remains to be seen what will happen."

"We want to make it easy for people to touch their systems of record...[and] route all of those activities to the right people to get work done automatically," Weir adds.

Sparqlight currently has more than 1,200 user companies using the service.
