Laptop Computer Made for the Road

Are you in search of a mobile computer that can hold its own on the road? Itronix proudly claims that its GoBook is the world's fastest notebook PC for field-based mobile workforces. It's designed for rugged indoor and outdoor use--and they mean rugged: It reportedly sustains extremes for water (rainstorms), shock, drop and temperature better than any competing notebook. Even better, that rough façade is all in the name of protecting its remarkable interior, which combines PC technology (it supports Windows 98, 2000 and NT operating systems) and wireless capabilities.

Notable Features Include:

  • Intel Pentium III or Celeron processor (660-plus MHz, plus 256MB SDRAM)

  • Integrated peripheral bay

  • Built-in fax modem

  • Full-feature radio bay with LAN/PAN/WAN options

  • 12.1-inch SVGA TFT color display with three-button touchpad navigation

Wireless--upgradable--communications are available through integrated radio options that include:

  • Motient

  • BellSouth Wireless Data

  • CDPD

  • GSM or wireless LAN

  • The Itronix GoBook also features a Bluetooth-ready architecture. The company says that the GoBook is the first notebook computer in its category to be shipped Bluetooth-ready. This is a big deal for users, for whom Bluetooth could enable wireless communication with printers or other peripherals and also remotely tether them to radio handsets, avoiding onboard radio alternatives.
